To Sleep, Perchance To Dream

The news from Baltimore leads to the conclusion that ALMS is being taken over by Grand Am, so maybe we will once again see proper sportscars on the Daytona banking. It is a seductive thought…………..ten years gone.

…not only will we not get top flight cars at Daytona, we will have to suffer with second rate cars contesting Sebring. Fancy the joy of shooting Proto-turtles there?

It appear to be not a merger, its a buy-out. We (IMSA and traditional sports car fans) loose.

Lee, I suspect that the evidence of history supports you. However I am told that the Folks from Daytona are spending upwards of 8 figures to buy out Don and Scott, and I saw Grand-Am and FIA/ACO officials talking at Silverstone a few weeks ago. Grand-Am has now got to makethe transition from a spoiler series to a profit centre.

The best outcome could be LMP2/DP+ with GTE and GT3, as I said one can dream.

There have been discussions to get the Rolex as part of the FIA WEC, with an additional chicane in NASCAR4. Not sure how that will play out.

Sebring is being dropped because the combined ALMS/FIA WEC car count is too much, neither party can expect customers to miss a race as important as Sebring…………….2014 might be different.

In any case our opinions count for nothing.
