Jay

apologies for the delayed reply, I have neglected my site over the past few months.

“I will never lift” was displayed on the two Panoz LMP07 entries #50 and #51 during the race.

Other cars and teams also paid tribute to Bob in a similar fashion.

Thank you for the great piece.

But I have one question; do you happen to remember the car with the “I will never lift” quotes attached on the rear along with the event it was from? I would assume it would be a tribute to him after his unfortunate passing, but I was never able to find information regarding that on the internet. I am looking forward to hopefully hearing from you.

We were in the paddock, front of the wide opened Porsche Factory truck. I was admiring all the special parts and stuff belonging to the all new Porsche GT1, the one in “war paint” like a tank. Then, i heard “C’est beau hein? Tu peux monter dedans 5 minutes. La seule chose que je te demande, c’est de ne pas prendre de photos” (Awesome, isnt’it? Boy, You can climb in 5 minutes. The only thing i’d ask you is to NOT take pics). Before i could have replied anything, i heard my Father say: “Thank you very much, mister Bob Wolleck”.
Will never forget this day, nor Bob Wolleck, nor my father.

Thank you, Marty Kauffman for sharing your very personal experience of the man’s last hours.

The opportunity to tell him that occurred at Sebring on the day before he was killed. At a prior event, Bob was a little careless and pushed someone off the track…it was one of those ‘racin’ deals’ and was not a major event when it happened but it was really an act of carelessness. My thought was to just let him know that regardless of how trivial an action was, it wasn’t really necessary as he most assuredly had the talent and equipment to overtake almost at will. We had a very personal and meaningful discussion and he left my office in the transporter very upbeat; me too, as I felt there had been a mutual understanding of what I, as the Race Director, expected of him as a professional race car driver and what he should expect of those drivers not of his expertise. I saw Hans Stuck at dinner that night at the Santa Rosa Hotel and told me of Bob’s accident. Stuck was totally devastated as was I.
