I don’t know if you remember me Mr Blumlein, I attended Clifton Lodge Preparatory School a very long time ago. I’ve felt the need to look for you for the last couple of weeks and believe me I have tried my luck almost everywhere, it was only my memory of your love for Le Mans that I had at my disposal. I had an instinct you might be somewhere amongst the motors. Somehow I found you and I just wanted to ask how you were. It is not as simple to come see you any more unfortunately and ask the same in person. Thank you also for all the wise and kind words you bestowed upon me.

The key words are ” at that time”. The Liege-Sofia-Liege rally was run for the last time in 1964 and the Marathons were run from 1965 onwards i.e. after 1962/63 as mentioned!

What about the Marathon de la Route? The 84-hour substitute for the Liege-Rome-Liege rally was held on the Nordschleiffe. Vic Elford won in a 911 Sportomatic in 1967 — and this past weekend I was with the 1968 MGC-GT that finished 6th there in 1968. Was run annually from 1965 to 1971 under the aegis of the Belgians…
