In ’71… I came into the world the same week that George Carlin recorded “FM/AM” in Georgetown (at the Bayou, I think), within days of the first “Earth Day,” and within a few months of Amtrak and Hard Rock Cafe being introduced.

Y’all some old farts. And I’m privileged as hell to know you and have worked alongside for a while.

Like you my taste for motorsport started then. I was also at the Brands Hatch & Silverstone races but, being slightly older than you (still am!), I drove my very rusty 1960 Mini. If I’d known you as anything other than an annoying Fourth Former at our “alma mater” I’d have given you a lift.
The personalities, the tricky circuits and especially the range of cars made it so interesting. It was also affordable to watch for an impecunious teenager.
This years GP cars all look uniformally ugly. Yes they are phenomenally effective but do they have the intangible soul of a 917 or even a March 711? Not to my eyes.
Speak soon
