In 20 years there have been many changes, not always for the best.
The growing importance of the Moto GP means that their requirements have to be factored in to any changes to the track.
The village has lost its character, but in fairness, the old one was rotten to the core and falling down. It was not in tune with today’s marketing led, corporate world.
I got talking to a spectator at the second Mulsanne Chicane, he was staying at the Hotel Arbor nearby. He does not go to the Village or the Pits any more. Either watches from the hotel grounds or makes the trek to Arnage. He said that he had been every year since 1971. A real fan.
The race is still fantastic, the closeness of the fight between Audi and Peugeot and the prospect of Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan and Toyota joining in by 2014 is mouth-watering.
Add in the GTE battle Vette/Porsche/Ferrari/Aston Martin etc and you can see why so many return every year. You still get good access to the teams, drivers and cars………….

had I known you were at Arnage I would have dropped by and said hello, were you drivers’ left or right?
As to the parade, there is provision at the Place des Jacobins for wheelchairs. If you would like to get a spot next year, let me know and I will speak to the man in charge………….I have known him for years.
Enjoying a weekend in the UK for a change, just Donington WTCC on Sunday.

]]>1) you didn’t drop past my marshalling point, poste 106 (after Arnage corner), and
2) I don’t go anywhere near the drivers parade as the crowds are too much for me and the wheelchair. Maybe the French could address this point in the future?
But the sound of that Mazda will live with me for a LONG time!!!! Wasn’t there when it raced, am so glad it was fired up this time.
